I have been using notebooks for the last several years to keep my notes on my businesses and my personal life. I have developed a system that works for me. Each notebook is set up with a Table of Contents, To Do section and notes from all my calls and meetings for a period of time. Once the notebook is full, I copy the Table of Contents containing the date and topic on that page and file the notebook away. If I ever had to, I could go back through all my Table of Contents and search by hand the conversation/notes on a deal, find that notebook in storage and turn to the relevant pages. Good in concept but hard to execute in real life.
I was searching for a solution and came across a SmartPen. SmartPens record your notes on special paper, the pen has a camera that can read small dots in the paper’s background that tells the pen it is on page 17 of notebook number 2. It records date and time and the best part is that it can convert handwritten notes into text which you can edit.
I found my solution of backing up my notes, digitizing my records and creating a searchable database. I have had it now a couple of weeks and have made sub notebooks on my personal computer that keeps my day job of commercial real estate investment banking separate from SaverNotes from my personal life notes and To Do’s. for each part of my life.
I can recommend this to anyone that needs to “draw to talk” or needs to have a visual and scratches out notes all the time. This is a great way to keep doing things the way you like but have it digitized and in a searchable database.
Action Step: Think about how to make your life more organized and if you have an idea check into it, you might just find a solution that makes your daily life easier and more enjoyable.
