As I mentioned in my previous post my father-in-law just passed away in July. Once the obituary was posted in the local newspaper the phone rang and my mother-in-law answered. The caller stated that they had received official notice of her husband’s death and to remove his name from her credit card she just needed to confirm the credit card number and security code on the back of the card. My mother-in-law is very sharp and did not fall for this scam.
Can you believe people would look to take advantage of someone who just lost their spouse and try and steal their credit card information? I’m sure there are plenty more stories like this but it was a first for our family.
